About

Mommy, Remind Me is a weekly Photo Story project undertaken by  a group of Malaysian mothers to documents stories of their children growing up as little Muslims.

Children are blessings and beautiful gifts from Allah, the Lord Almighty. An amanah (trust) from Him.  And it is our responsibilities as parents to instil beautiful Islamic values in them.

Brother Nouman Ali Khan once reminded parents in one of his talks that our children came into this world with the fitrah, and one of them is the love they already have for their Creator.  It is upon us parents to nurture the fitrah in them. And childhood is the best time to expose our children to the love and mercy of Allah. To His care, and His gifts and the love of His prophets.

We could not agree more. Childhood is the best time to instil Islamic identities in our children especially through the love of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful, and our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Being parents, we know the path we dream for them is not easy. It comes with a lot of efforts, sacrifices and struggles. There is ups and downs. But along the journey, there is always something beautiful we can pick up from, if we put our trust in Allah.

So we thought how beautiful it can be if we get to documents those moments. Moments of them growing up.  Little persons learning to know their Creator, His love, mercy, care, gifts and guidance. And many more beautiful adventures they take, growing up as little Muslims.

We aspire not to document their perfect stories, but stories of bountiful colours.  There are happy and delighted moments, and perhaps some cranky moments (we know any child could not avoid no matter how hard they try). There are their everyday stories. There are triumphs, but there are also breakdowns.  Stories to remind ourselves that our children are not perfect. Yet it is their beautiful imperfections that make them little humans we love so dearly.

Our weekly Photo Story is also in celebration of the whimsical, innocent and imaginative nature of our children.  It is our dream that along the journey we get to capture those moments in them while documenting their stories.

These are stories of them growing up learning about their Deen, the love they have for the Creator, Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful and His beloved Messenger (peace be upon him), the little things they do that make them good and beautiful little persons, little acts they do appreciating the gifts from Allah the Almighty, and them exploring nature in awe of His bounty. These are also stories of discovering and learning, both for our children and us their mothers.

We pray one day these stories will remind them of who they are, and especially the love of Allah. In their stories, there are also reminiscence of mothers' hopes, dreams and prayers; our love letters to our beautiful children written in stories of photographs.

In shaa Allah.
